This is my cathedral;
A magnificent ceiling of limitless blue as far as the eye can see with
shadows of light peeking thru towering, twisted pillars.
No stained glass windows here,
But in their place,
an ever changing landscape;
a living tapestry
of tender and verdant greens,
then burnished golds dissolving into barren silver.
There is no grand pipe organ here
trumpeting solemn sacred hymns;
just the sound of silence,
leaves underfoot,
and the gentle rustling wind.
I am a solitary congregation,
yet surely not alone.
Brother squirrel, sister redbird,
the occasional spotted fawn
all venture near to join their praise with mine.
There is an altar in this sanctuary
and this altar is the earth,
alternatingly warm and frozen
beneath my feet, yet ever a source of life for all who worship here.
You will hear a sermon if you listen closely; a wordless, wise, and
omnipresent Voice speaks in the stillness and resonates in the heart.
It knows each footstep that falls on the pathway And welcomes each
life that enters its Presence.
This is my cathedral;
Simple, peaceful, wondrous, and alive.
I come sometimes heavy laden,
sometimes joyous and unfettered
but always in this cathedral the invocation is the same:
“Come all creatures great and small. Come and enter the House of the Lord”.
Amen.
